Though there have been far too many strong villains in DB, DBZ, and DBS, Goku has proved from time to time why he is the strongest Z fighter. But with all these years and countless battles, many fans find it difficult to understand the power scaling in this action genre anime. So, we have raked all of Goku’s forms in this article.
All Forms of Goku in Dragon Ball Series Ranked from Worst to Best
The most iconic change that we see in Goku’s forms is his hair color. Sometimes gold, red, blue, etc. these colors let fans identify his transformations. But it also confuses some people who haven’t caught up with the story. Now, check this list of all the saiyan/non saiyan form of Kakarot:
Oozaru Form
This is probably one of the first transformations that we got in the series. Goku would transform into a big ape in the series and go completely out of control whenever he would see the moon or anything alike, destroying everyone and everything in front of him. Though this form was powerful enough, Goku lost it while facing grandpa Gohan in a tournament. To be more precise, he lost his tail during that fight, which was the only way for him to turn into a big ape. Fans even got the chance to see a similar form, the golden oozaru in Dragon Ball GT. This later introduced the Super Saiyan 4 form, which we will talk about later in this article.
Super Saiyan 1
The first Super Saiyan transformation of Goku gave a different direction to the entire Dragon Ball series. It created new possibilities for the story and character development. When Goku turned Super Saiyan for the first time, fans could not forget his drip. Though, times changed and now, the SSJ1 is one of the weaker forms of our protagonist.
Super Saiyan 2
Introduced to the game by teen Gohan, the Super Saiyan 2 form is far stronger than its predecessor. It even has its importance now in the series when newly introduced Saiyans like Caulifla tried to achieve this form.
Super Saiyan 3
My personal favorite SS form is the SSJ3. That long golden hairstyle has its separate fanbase. Goku first showed this form while having a duel with Majin Buu. But, it has not been used so often in the series. Even though it gives a huge power boost, Goku says that it drains a lot of stamina too. As a result, this form is more or less useless in many conditions when Kakarot has even better power-ups which we will talk about ahead.
Super Saiyan God
When Beerus became the biggest threat this universe faced, Goku had no choice but to rely on his sons, rival, and others to give him enough power to turn into SSG. This form drains a lot less stamina than SSJ3 and gives even better power. This form is the reason why Goku was able to compete against 10% of Beerus’ power. Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Super Saiyan Blue When a Saiyan turns super Saiyan while still being in the Super Saiyan God form, we call it Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. Goku and Vegeta use this particular form more often than others. The SSB form is a power that even rivals the Gods in Dragon Ball Super.
Super Saiyan 4 (Non cannon)
Introduced in Dragon Ball GT, the Super Saiyan 4 leaves everyone speechless. Fans have mixed opinions about the GT series but this particular form got more love than the series itself. Thanks to that red fur and a tail, the SSJ4 form gives back that Saiyan-like feels to our protagonist.
Ultra Instinct Sign
For other warriors, this is more like a technique that makes your body evade attacks automatically. Though, things are different for Goku as he becomes someone completely different in this form. This is the form that let Goku put up a fair fight against Jiren in the Tournament of Power. Also, many Gods of Destructions struggle to achieve this form thanks to them being angry all the time. This makes it more evident why Goku is the GOAT of this series.
Mastered Ultra Instinct
Upon its first appearance, this form made all the Gods stand in respect for Son Goku. He achieved a feat that is nearly impossible for many. The MUI also helped him overpower Jiren. Moreover, when Goku attained the Mastered Ultra Instinct form, he surpassed himself yet again in the Dragon Ball series. Thus making this form his strongest one till now.
Additional Forms of Goku in Dragon Ball Series
These are some other techniques/forms which Goku is capable of pulling:
Kaioken: Thanks to King Kai, Goku learned this technique to use against Vegeta when he came to the Earth for the first time. Kaioken is a powerup that multiplies Goku’s power but also takes a toll on his body. Though we didn’t see him use this form much since the Cell Games, Dragon Ball Super made it relevant again. When Goku used this technique with Super Saiyan Blue, he was able to land some hits on Hit. This prevented him from getting defeated easily like our Saiyan Prince. Super Saiyan Second/Third Grade: A transformation that stays between the SSJ1 and SSJ2. It gives the use immense attack power by compromising the speed. Goku once used one such form while training with Gohan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Though, he said that this form is nowhere useful in an actual battle. That’s why we haven’t seen him using it in the series since then.
These are all the forms of Goku in Dragon Ball. Even though there are so many forms that Goku has as of now, fans have their preferences in these forms. For someone like me, it’s the Super Saiyan 3. It can also be different for you. And, all these forms of Goku hold their importance in the series and we must never think of any one of them being inferior to the other. That’s all about the Goku forms in Dragon Ball ranked from best to worst. For more related to Anime, check out this category.
